Last Saturday, Lee and I went on a little adventure to Bay Beach here in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is not a beach, but rather a place with amusement park rides and a wild life sanctuary. The snow frosted the tall trees and there was a magical feel in the air. It is hard to describe the feeling of pureness when the brightest light comes directly from the snow. Just pure white all around you. We have learned that the sun is often hiding behind the clouds this far north during the winter. I always get a big smile on my face when I catch a good sunset at the end of the day. I rush to get Lee from work so that he can see it too. Sometimes it hides within five minutes.
At the Sanctuary, there was a long trail winding around all the acres of land, surrounded by frozen ponds. There were literally hundreds of ducks and geese dotting the ponds. There were three or four wooden-framed buildings with animals inside. We saw a variety of birds, bats, snakes, rabbits, a mink, skunk, and many others. There was a sign that showed the migration paths of the birds in the winter. I was amazed to learn how far some of the birds had to migrate. Then it made me very excited for spring to come again; the sound of birds singing outside the window in the morning. We bought a bag full of hard corn kernels. We went outside to feed the ducks and geese. They flocked around us and honked like crazy. The geese were mean to each other, nipping at and pulling each others' feathers. One goose decided to peck at my hand to get me to hurry and feed it. It was fun to watch the corn fall and the birds race to their food. It was delightful and brought back childhood memories of feeding the ducks with my family at the local canal in Taylorsville, Utah.
Here are a few pictures of the place, but they don't give it justice at all. Take a look at the world around you. It is beautiful! I am grateful for every season of the earth, and of life. Spring brings a new summer, and a summer brings a new fall.
